2010 QuickStart Tennis Day at Darden Towe Park

The third annual QuickStart Tennis Day at Darden Towe Park was held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Darden Towe Park in Charlottesville. Kids ages 5 to 10 were invited to attend this Tennis Block Party which happens each year on the last Saturday in May. May is National Tennis Month! To celebrate, we have QuickStart Day to kick off the summer QuickStart programs for Albemarle County Parks & Recreation Department. This year there are two additional summer programs being offered by ACAC and QuickStart Plus Tennis Camps.

There were two sessions again this year: 10:00-11:30 and 12:30-2:00. 140 kids pre-registered for the popular event. There was a Waiting List with another 40 kids. We need more courts at Darden Towe!

Each QuickStart Tennis Day participant received a Go Bananas for QuickStart! bracelet and a Go Bananas for QuickStart! drawstring bag filled with goodies -- water bottle from UVA HEATLine, USTA SMASH Magazine, Albemarle Family Magazine, a set of Go Bananas for QuickStart! Tennis Player Cards and informatiom about summer QuickStart programs in the area. Each child has been asked to write one QuickStart Tennis Day sponsor a thank-you note for making QuickStart Tennis Day possible.

Parents and siblings were encouraged to sit on-court and cheer the kids on. They brought tailgate chairs, umbrellas, water and cameras to capture all the action. It was a very festive day! Whole Foods donated bananas, whole-grain cereal bars and water for on-court breaks.
