USTA Launches New 10 and Under Workshop Format
April 2012 -- The USTA has created a revised workshop format for teaching QuickStart Tennis. While some of the elements are the same, the evolution of the teaching approach is evident. Many of the activities prospective instructors and coaches are shown are derivations of routines used by professional tennis players for fitness and conditioning. They have been translated into the FUN of QuickStart.
Tug of War develops agility and balance while promoting FUN and cooperation. All you need is a towel.
Mickey Mouse ears help develop footwork and balance while teaching kids to "load" the outside foot.
With QuickStart it's all about "show and tell" and not much talking. Young kids are visual learners and they want to have FUN!
Doesn't that look like FUN? Imagine the smiles it creates with kids . . .
Mirroring is FUN! Beanbag toss is still popular
Thanks to everyone for coming out! A special thanks to our USTA National instructor, Sharon Cleland, who came all the way from Midland, Michigan!
