Grymes Memorial School Goes Bananas for QuickStart!

Bobbye Davies, former teacher at Grymes Memorial School in Orange, VA, long-time tennis player and Grandma to two up and coming USTA/Mid-Atlantic junior tennis players, loved QuickStart the minute she heard about it. Her busy retirement schedule finally allowed her to attend a USTA Recreational QuickStart Workshop in May 2010.  Didn't take her long to get faculty members and parents at Grymes interested in getting trained. Then she started on her tennis buddies. The Orange County School System has been hit hard by budget cutbacks. Many PE teachers lost their jobs. The remaining PE teachers are going to have larger classes. Some will have to cover two schools. The amount of PE time for the students is going to decline. Tennis players in Orange will STEP UP for QuickStart! and help out in PE classes when QuickStart is being taught.

Charlie Seyffer, the Athletic Director at Grymes, had a really big smile when he found out that, in recognition of Bobbye's extraordinary efforts to rally the tennis community around QuickStart, Grymes was being given racquets, balls and a net to help start their QuickStart programming in PE Classes.

And many thanks to Sara Haney, Assistant Athletic Director for Orange County High School, for making the Field House available for training and being such a big QuickStart supporter. Sara and Tammy Newkirk, PE teacher at Unionville Elementary in Orange County, attended the very first QuickStart Workshop in Central Virginia (February 2009) and participated in the Grymes training session. Tammy and Sara never miss a chance for QuickStart training. There's always something new to learn!
