Eat like a great tennis player!

That's the message we take to kids during Go Bananas for QuickStart! school visits.

QCV recently visited Clark Elementary School in the City of Charlottesville and spoke to three separate PE classes of first, second and third graders. Mr. Massie, the Clark PE teacher, is getting ready to start teaching a block of QuickStart classes. Visiting PE classes is a great way to get kids excited about learning QuickStart and eating healthy foods. These kids really knew their fruits and veggies. Clark received a grant that makes fresh foods available in the school's cafeteria. Go Bananas! is reinforcing some really good eating habits at Clark.

After some fitness and conditioning activities and racquet skills development, we tell kids about what great tennis players eat. We use the Go Bananas! poster (see below) for talking points.

The kids at Clark were very receptive as their smiling faces show. Melodie Hagspiel, QCV Event Coordinator, and Mary Anne Davis, QCV Director of Youth QuickStart, had a really good time too!

  

QuickStart Coordinator Lynda Harrill finished up the Go Bananas! talk by reminding the kids to brush and floss. Each kid was given a Go Bananas! poster, two Go Bananas! Nutrition Cards, a Go Bananas! silicone bracelet and a coupon from QuickStart supporter, The CVille Market, for a free banana, a free bottle of water and a free tour of the produce department. One first-grader announced he was going to The CVille Market "right after lunch!" We told him to be sure to ask his teacher about that!
