High School QuickStart

High School QuickStart develops skills quickly

With the USTA's No-Cut School Tennis Team Initiative, QuickStart can help older beginners develop skills quickly, catch up with players who started tennis at a younger age, and let them experience the fun of being part of a high school tennis team. QuickStart also helps experienced players who want to work on specific areas of their game by slowing things down and letting them focus sharply on what needs improvement.

Red Court/Red Ball

High school QuickStart beginners start on the Red Court (36 feet) with 25- or 27-inch racquets and foam balls. Most then rapidly progress from foam balls to red low-compression balls. Playing on the Red Court teaches touch, control and directional intent.

Orange Court/Orange Ball
Next they move to the Orange Court (60 feet) and begin to use orange low-compression balls that increase the height of the bounce and the pace of the ball. Playing on the Orange Court improves reaction time and footwork while reinforcing the touch, control and directional intent learned on the Red Court.

Regulation Court/Green Ball/Yellow Ball
When players are ready to move to the full-size Regulation Court (78 feet), they first use green low-compression balls for a short time before moving to the regulation yellow ball. By the time they reach the regulation court, their main objective is increasing racquet-head speed and learning tennis strategy. The progression from Red Court to Regulation Court can be customized to suit the skills of each student.
